Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp ketchup (optional for flavor)
- 6–8 slices cheddar cheese, cut into squares
- 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough (8-count) or
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp melted butter
- 10 cups water
- ¾ cup baking soda
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse pretzel salt
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire. Cook until browned, then drain excess fat. Stir in ketchup if using. Let cool completely.
- If using biscuit dough, separate biscuits and slightly flatten each one into a circle. If making homemade pretzel dough, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit 5 minutes until foamy. Add melted butter, salt, and flour. Knead 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise 1 hour. Divide dough into 12–14 balls.
- Place a spoonful of cooled beef filling in the center of each dough disk. Add a square of cheddar cheese. Wrap dough tightly around filling and pinch seams closed. Roll gently into a smooth ball.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Bring water and baking soda to a boil. Drop each dough ball into the boiling soda bath for 20–25 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a parchment-lined tray.
- Brush each pretzel bomb with egg wash. Sprinkle coarse salt on top. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until deep golden brown. Cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Optional dipping sauces include burger sauce, ranch, spicy mayo, and honey mustard.
- Ensure the beef filling is completely cooled before wrapping in dough to prevent melting.
