Description

French Onion Beef Rice Casserole is a hearty and flavorful dish that combines ground beef, creamy soups, and rice, topped with melted cheese and crispy onions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) lean ground beef
  • ½ to 1 tsp garlic salt, to taste
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can French onion soup
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice (or use cooked for a quicker version)
  • 1 ¼ cups beef broth
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
  • ½ cup crispy fried onions, plus more for topping
  • 1 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter or heat oil. Add ground beef, garlic salt, and black pepper. Cook until browned and crumbly, about 5–7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. In a large bowl, combine French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, beef broth, and uncooked rice. Stir in the cooked ground beef and mix until everything is evenly coated.
  3. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover tightly with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40–45 minutes, or until rice is tender. Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top, and return to the oven for 5–10 minutes, until melted and bubbly.
  4. Sprinkle crispy fried onions over the top. Bake uncovered for an additional 5 minutes until golden and crisp. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot!
