Description
A delicious and easy recipe for Hawaiian Roll French Toast, perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package King’s Hawaiian Rolls (12-count)
- 3 large eggs
- ¾ cup whole milk (or half & half for richness)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tbsp butter (for frying)
Instructions
- Tear or cut the Hawaiian rolls apart. You can leave them whole or slice them in half for more surface area (like thick “mini toast”).
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar, and salt until smooth and well combined.
- Dip each roll into the custard mixture, turning to coat evenly. Let it soak for about 5–10 seconds — just enough to absorb flavor but not get soggy.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a bit of butter. Place the dipped rolls in the pan, cut side down. Cook each side for about 2–3 minutes, or until golden brown and slightly crisp.
- Stack on a plate, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and drizzle with warm maple syrup. Add fruit or whipped cream for extra flair.
Notes
- For a stuffed version, add a dollop of cream cheese, Nutella, or fruit preserves between halved rolls before dipping.
- For a coconut twist, replace milk with coconut milk and sprinkle toasted coconut flakes on top.
- For a baked version, arrange in a buttered baking dish, pour custard over top, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes.
