Description

Oven-Baked Cabbage Burgers are a delicious low-carb alternative to traditional burgers, featuring a savory meat filling nestled in cabbage cups, topped with melted cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large green cabbage
  • 23 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 23 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs (optional — skip for keto)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 cup marinara or tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Remove outer leaves and slice cabbage into thick rounds (about 1.5-2 inches thick). Place slices on a greased baking sheet. Brush with olive oil, season with salt & pepper. Bake 20–25 minutes, until beginning to soften.
  2. While cabbage bakes, mix together in a bowl: ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs (optional), seasonings, Worcestershire, and 2–3 tbsp marinara. Combine well.
  3. Remove cabbage from oven. Spoon meat mixture onto each cabbage slice and form into “burger” patties. Spoon a little marinara on top. Bake 25–30 minutes, until meat is cooked.
  4. Top each with shredded cheese. Return to oven 5–7 minutes to melt. Garnish with parsley.

Notes

  • Swap ground beef for turkey, pork, or plant-based meat.
  • Add chili flakes for heat.
  • Make mini versions with cabbage leaves.
  • Refrigerate leftovers for 3–4 days.
  • Freeze (after baking) for 2–3 months.
  • Reheat in oven or air fryer for best texture.
