- 4 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and grated
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 small onion, finely grated (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2–3 tablespoons oil or butter (for frying)
- 250 g (about 1/2 lb) ground beef
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika or chili flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or your choice)
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until soft.
- Add the ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and paprika (if using).
- Cook until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Grate the potatoes and squeeze out excess water using a clean kitchen towel.
- In a bowl, combine grated potatoes, eggs, flour, onion (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and slightly sticky.
- Heat oil or butter in a non-stick pan over medium heat.
- Take a spoonful of potato mixture and flatten it in the pan to form a pancake.
- Add a spoonful of the beef filling and some shredded cheese on top.
- Cover with another spoonful of potato mixture, pressing edges to seal.
- Fry each pancake for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Garnish with fresh herbs and serve hot with sour cream, yogurt, or your favorite dipping sauce.
